One of the best aspects of social media is the power it gives consumers. The power to decide how and what they want you to communicate to them. In an email I received today from SAM’s club they did just that.

Connect With Customers the Way They Want

  • Ask what they want to receive emails about. Targeted emails and subject lines will get a far greater open rate than a generalized email blast. To that end segment your customers on sign-up or as Sam’s did here, after the fact.
  • Enccourge them to download your mobile app or visit your mobile enabled web site. Offer features mobile users want like comparisons and reviews.
  • Offer them simple text messages as an option. They are quick and easy.
  • Invite them to join you on Facebook and Twitter with the promise of special deals and promotion. Discounts are the main reason people become a fan of a brand on Facebook.

Overall letting customers choose is a winning proposition for you and them.
